The Locality

The Old Town

Restaurants, bars and nightlife

There are many restaurants and seafront bars along the coast in Peniscola. There are also some great bars with delicious tapas on offer hidden in the centre of the old town, plus a small nightclub and many restaurants. Watch out for the narrow ‘street of pigs’ with cured meat served outside tiny bars. On the North beach the busier Mandarina bar is open until unknown hours…

The Old Town - a view  from the south beach

View of Peniscola Old Town

The Old Quarter of the town was the location of the film El Cid – it lies on an outcrop stretching out to sea and divides the town’s two main beaches – Playa Sur (South Beach) and Playa Norte (North Beach). Climb the cobbled streets to visit the castle and old walled town for some great views, plus many shops, bars and restaurants.

There are boat trips available from the harbour where you can also explore the fish market and see many fishing boats.

The Harbour

Old Town Harbour
The North beach is a 3km expanse of white sand and in the summer months the beach is full of Spanish holidaymakers. There are pedaloes and banana boats to hire as well as street musicians and performers. You can take a train ride on one of four trips from the stop on the seafront.

The North Beach

The North Beach

The South beach is quieter, and wonderful for children as the sea is shallow until very far out.
