I missed my opportunity to find out what pressing engagement Craptain had that meant he wasn’t available to lead from the front in The Almonds match against West Sports last Tuesday, but it was nice that he turned up later in the evening to check on his troops!  Vice-Craptain Compact was in charge, turning up early to shout a few instructions at peRV for holding the fort until he’d finished his taxi duties, and for a while it looked like too many cooks might spoil the broth…

My attention to the game was distracted by peRV’s ineptitude at mastering control of the chalk & scoreboard, kind enquiries about John’s recuperation, and ultimately Barnesy’s reason for turning up late…  aRCe & Taffy both got off to a magnificent start, but it turned out to be premature peaking and they finished with 22 & 13 to leave us trailing 13 pins, whereupon Joe & Jake put in a cloned performance scoring 19 each and pretty much holding us in the same position at 14 pins down.

As his competitive streak has proven previously that he will pull out all the stops not to be beaten by a woman, Minidisk was partnered with yours truly –& I was only invited along because you were desperate apparently – and  I would like to point out that I took absolutely no pleasure at all in ‘rinsing’ Georgie Boy when he scored 8 against my 25…  we dropped a further 5 pins to leave us 19 down as Jocky & Barnesy Junior entered stage right.  Rob could be forgiven for being put off his game by his Mother bragging about turning up late due to exercising conjugal rights with Chuckle 1, displaying all the right hand movements involved in checking out the opposition’s balls & her being shown all C1’s leg moves when they got home…

Despite this disadvantage, between them they pulled back 3 pins with their 22 & 11 and turned the game around for The Almonds.  Inspired, peRV & Compact were able to capitalise on this and pulled back a further 13 to put our ‘ankers in a good position to steal a victory, adding 16 & 20 to their respective averages.  Sparky & Chuckle 1 scored 18 & 27, pulled back 14 pins and gave us our 2nd win by 11 pins.

Next week’s game is Thursday 10th November at the Stapleton & Begbrook Club (Frenchay), against the Phantoms – the best of luck to all of you, look forward to hearing about the game and seeing you all again soon.
