Match Report: 09.10.07 - Wasps v Almonds (KO Cup) PDF Print E-mail
Dear Craptain, I am thinking of retiring from the skittling fraternity:  not too many people can achieve top score, a 30+ & top of the averages in a season, let alone all in one week.  Having reached those dizzy heights it has to be all downhill from there, & I’m not sure I want to reside in the murky depths of the dcukpond for all eternity…  I shall search my soul for a few days hence, but methinks my days are numbered. The Almonds gathered at what is fast becoming their second home, Patchway Sports & Social Club, already convinced that we had secured a place in the All In Cup.  As Orical decided he wanted the pleasure of my company all to himself, I wasn’t best placed to pick up the usual rich plethora of bullshit, segregated as I was in almost as much of an outpost as the Sticker Up, so this week’s Match Report – just to manage your expectations – is not going to have much content, which funnily enough matches my skittles on Tuesday. Turk & Lodge kicked us off, dropping us 14 behind after scoring 24 & 11.  Jocky & Taffy were next up, Jocky so excited at the prospect he leaped up to play before it was even his turn!  Taffy looked like he was taking it all very seriously too, staring fixedly at the pins whilst he was bowling, but it turned out he had forgotten his glasses…  They only dropped 2 pins with scores of 12 & 22 respectively, so at 16 down Compact probably saw no harm in putting Wiggle & himself on. More fool him.  Wiggle had a ‘mare, almost scoring more dcuks than pins to finish on 5, whilst Compact fared little better really but did at least achieve double figures with 11.  I’d like to point out here that I only dropped 12 pins, Compact being responsible for 20, so it wasn’t all my fault the Almonds now found themselves 48 pins down.  A good thing to bear in mind though is that there is a positive side to this - at least Wiggle’s score didn’t count in the averages. aRCe & Hammer were challenged with turning the game around, and they did at least try.  They pulled back 10 pins by scoring 24 & 22, & then it was over to peRV & Orical to keep the momentum going.  Only they didn’t bother:  peRV’s 11 & Orical’s 17 saw us slip back to 42 down as our lucky, lucky ‘ankers Sparky & Chuckle1 were left with it all to work for… They made a fight out of it, Sparky pulling back 22 pins with his top score of 34 & C1 2 pins with his 31, but if you can do the Maths you’ll know that even this brave finale wasn’t enough to do more than lessen the shame of crashing out of the Front Pin Knockout Cup in the first round by only losing by 18 pins. Our next match is Wednesday 17th October, back at the Patchway Sports & Social Club again, this time playing against the Smugglers.
